Mentoring Program

9th and 10th graders participate in NJ LEEP’s Debate Program and participate in two debates each academic year.

Debates help our students develop life skills:

Public Speaking

Self-Confidence/Self-Advocacy

Critical Thinking, Research and Writing

If you really, really want to make a difference in someone’s life, and give them the benefit of your experience and wisdom, you should mentor. The rewarding nature of helping someone get to college and get a college education? There’s nothing greater than that.
— Steve T. NJ LEEP Attorney Mentor

How to Become an Attorney Mentor

Mentors are paired with students to help them prepare for each debate. Mentors meet with students at prescheduled times during the academic year and attend both debates to support their mentee.

One of the primary goals of the mentor-mentee relationship is to add additional supports to our students as they build their debate skills. Our mentoring program has proved invaluable to our students; many students continue to work with their mentors after high school towards their goal of college graduation and starting careers.
