We are so excited you are considering joining us as a mentor for our 10th and 11th grade students who participate in our Constitutional Law Debate Program. NJ LEEP mentors have the unique opportunity to make a direct impact on the learning and growth of our students. By providing them with support throughout the debate process you will both help them understand the case law/fact pattern and also develop skills including critical thinking, public speaking, presentation skills and confidence. Our mentors play a truly valuable role in both the academic and personal growth of our students. Our mentors are one of the greatest sources of support our students have access to during their time with NJ LEEP. As with many high school students, they occasionally have challenges. With that, would you be comfortable working with a student who encounters any of the following?

Background Check

NJ LEEP will request a consumer report and/or investigative consumer report, as defined by the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act, on you from a consumer reporting agency in connection with your volunteering application and for volunteering purposes. A consumer report is a compilation of information that may affect your ability to volunteer for NJ LEEP. The background check will be administered by a third-party, GoodHire, and will include a (1) Social Security Number trace; (2) a nationwide criminal databases search; (3) a sex offender registry search; and (4) a statewide criminal records search (for most recent state of residence). You will receive a separate email with instructions regarding the background check process, and will then be contacted by GoodHire to facilitate this process. NJ LEEP will contact you with further details around the background check process once you have been selected as an NJ LEEP mentor.
